Zoo Co are looking for an organised, proactive and kind Board Support Worker with an awareness of governance processes to support our board meetings in 2024/25.

Dates, times and locations: 

5 meetings and 1 Board Away Day across the year (24/25): 

Tues 14 May 2024, 6pm - 7.30pm (AGM - location TBC)

Tues 2nd July, 10am-6pm (Board Away Day - location TBC)

Tues 6th August 2024, 6pm - 7.30pm (Meeting - location TBC)

Tues 12th November 2024, 6pm - 7.30pm (Meeting - location TBC)

Board Support Worker duties may include:

  • Being a point of contact for the Board to support with lateness, absence etc

  • Offering gentle reminders of meetings/deadlines via email/WhatsApp/phone (dependent on preference) to board members and attending staff, both one week in advance and on the day. (I.e: Reminder of meeting details, any documents that need to be read/prepared ahead of the meeting and confirming attendance)

  • Working with relevant trustees and members of staff to adapt documents to an easier to digest or alternative formats (e.g - audio versions)

  • Providing sessions for reading through documents approx half an hour before meeting start time for anyone who hasn't been able to do so in advance, including support understanding anything where necessary (with a BSL interpreter if needed)

  • Offering digital access coordination for Zoom/hybrid meetings (e.g - making sure interpreters are visible, ensuring regular breaks, upholding Zoo Co’s Relaxed Zoom policy, making sure captions work etc)

  • Being a confident and proactive communicator of access requirements/ reminders mid-meeting when self advocating might feel uncomfortable (i.e - not wanting to detract from important discussion etc)

  • Taking meeting minutes in a clear, concise manner to create valuable and accessible notes

  • Maintaining positive relationships with Zoo Co colleagues and trustees

  • Complying with company policies at all times, including but not limited to Equal Opportunities, GDPR, Confidentiality and Health & Safety, and Safeguarding

  • Any other duties reasonably required

We’d love to hear from you if: 

  • You have experience of holding space for multiple access needs at any one time  

  • You are organised, with great time management skills

  • You have some awareness of charity governance


A DBS check is required for the role. (Zoo Co operate under an understanding of the Rehabilitation of Offenders regulations.) 


£150 per meeting (incl. prep - meeting times below, £175 for yearly Board Away Day
