Overview:

We are looking for a brilliant black writer who loves collaboration and creating bold characters with fun, highly engaging storylines to help us co-create Bossy, a brand new children’s show aimed at 5-9 year olds. You will be supporting our BSL writer who will take the lead in story writing but you will be integral to the process.

About the show:

Bossy follows Beth who is clever, confident and wants to become the best leader in the world, and is often called ‘Bossy’ for it.  We want the show to be a celebration of young, inclusive feminism, deaf culture and black culture. As such, Black or mixed Black background writers will be prioritised in our search. The show will be performed primarily in BSL, and we will explore how we incorporate English through captioning and speech.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for someone with strong storytelling and ideally some level of BSL skills, who can support our BSL writer, help create the script and work alongside the creative team.

You will need to have some professional experience in theatre to apply.

About the creation process:

We will be running co-creation workshops either side of a week of Research and Development with actors/devisers, choreographers and a composer. You will not be required to attend the workshops but you will be needed for the R&D.

There will then be a Commission period stretching over a few months where you will have time to solidify the story/script of the show, with support and collaboration from the team. Rehearsals will then take place in March 2023 before a tour in April - May.
