WHY SUPPORT ZOO CO?
As a theatre company, our four main focuses are to:
Create innovative, exciting live productions
Champion and drive accessibility in theatre
Support and nurture brilliant artists
Serve our local community and empower young people
​​All of these require a considerable amount of funding. We spend a great deal of time researching and applying to every fund applicable to us, so we may keep our work going. Since 2017, the remit of our work has evolved to create dynamic, accessible and innovative new work. We have brought together diverse casts, creative leaders, characters and stories, and continued to develop our creative style; driving innovation and playfulness, telling really good stories that we care deeply about, and creating work which is visually inventive, open-hearted and authentic. We are multi-award winning theatre makers, creating high quality works, all receiving critical acclaim from The Stage, The List, and even winning the Three Week's Editor's Choice Award 2018. Most recently, we have been chosen as 1 of the final 2 companies in receipt of the Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust R+D Award for Perfect Show For Rachel, which we will get to R+D at the Barbican October 2021.

As well as creating workshops and engagement programmes, which accompany our shows, we have run week long workshops for young people to engage in the arts, collaborated on an annual immersive outdoor show and 8 week educational programme for disadvantaged children and offered a range of commissions to artists (including those who are d/Deaf and disabled) to create their important work. We have set up pop up theatre spaces in shopping centres, markets, public squares and high streets, anywhere, because we think theatre is better when everyone is invited and sometimes that means taking theatre outside of traditional spaces. All our shows are Relaxed Performances - no exceptions. This offers a safer space for those who need it when coming to the theatre, again making theatre more accessible for everyone.
In our time as a company we have had 7 successful Arts Council funding bids and further support from local authorities, trusts and foundations. All these bids require match funding which your support is vital to. We hope this shows that we really make the most of every penny you donate, and use it to leverage more vital funding. We train all our core team and our associate artists in British Sign Language so we can continue supporting d/Deaf artists authentically. We have recently trained a Mental Health First aider to support artists working on projects. We believe we can and must be an active part of making access the 'new normal' in the industry. Although this is only a small insight into what Zoo Co is and does, we hope that this will help show why you should support us so that we can continue to do all of that, and more.
