Zoo Co's Young Company presents, Rooted in the Upstairs Studio at the Omnibus Theatre in Clapham.

In a village in the heart of England, something ancient has been disturbed…
A group of friends discover a connection to a past they never knew existed as they battle to save their home and each other.
With the bulldozers closing in, and the anger of the forest lashing out, the young people must decide what they’re willing to sacrifice to protect the people they love.

A dark comedy co-created with Zoo Co’s Young Company and acclaimed artist Liv Ello. Rooted explores what happens when we lose our connection to nature, and find there’s more guarding the forest than just the trees.

DATES: Wednesday 31st July 2024 & Thursday 1st August 2024.
ACCESS INFORMATION: All Zoo Co performances are relaxed as standard.
Thursday 1st August will be a BSL interpreted performance.
The theatre is fully accessible, please get in touch with us here if you have any questions or would like to discuss any access requirements in more detail.

Each year we co-create  a show, which we perform in Summer, just after the Summer Holidays start. There is usually a week of intensive rehearsals / tech rehearsals during this week (in the school holidays). We have performed at Fairfield Halls, Stanley Arts, and the Omnibus Theatre.

Weekly workshops are led by Zoo Co’s Artistic Director Flo O'Mahony.

Visiting theatre practitioners and industry professionals join us for guest workshops, offering the chance to try new skills and practices (eg. physical theatre, audio visual work).

Over the year, we’ll work together to devise a play. We often commission professional writers to put together all the ideas into a script.

Zoo Co believes that theatre is better when everyone is invited, and we share that ethos with the young theatremakers in our YoCo. You’ll learn about accessible creative practices like creative captioning and integrated sign language. Sessions are open to young people with various access needs, please let us know if you/your young person has any access requirements. Flo is hearing and signs at about BSL Level 3.

People can join at any point in the year, except July when the show is almost ready for performance. If you’d like to be part of the process from the very start of making a show, September is the best time to join.

People from our YoCo have gone on to study at the Brit School, and at the Central School of Speech and Drama.

We are now accepting applications for next year's Young Company, starting in September 2024.
